Role

Prototyper, Researcher

Process

  • Learn about stroke and stroke rehabilitation

In order to empathize with stroke patients, we had to understand the causes and effects of stroke, and the current treatments and innovations that help stroke patients.

We conducted a literature review on stroke rehabilitation innovations and did a gap analysis on current stroke rehab applications.
  • Brainstorm

After conducting our initial research, my team and I met to brainstorm possible innovations for stroke rehab. We narrowed it down to a mobile application because mobile devices are easily accessible.
  • Create interactive prototype

Due to the limited nature of this project, we were only required to create an interactive prototype of the innovation in order to help visualize how it would work.

Insights

I learned that gaining domain knowledge is a crucial part when going through the process of developing an innovation in health IT. I learned how to conduct a gap analysis by analyzing published research articles on stroke rehabilitation and reviewing current stroke rehab mobile applications.
